Evangelism Explosion 3/7/06
Good Wednesday morning!!
Okay , here we go again...last night I went out with Ken and Chris (again). Ronnie actually gave me the choice between two teams that needed a female - I've been serving as a "female floater" this semester. Chris was in the Trainee session with Vic, while Ken and I were in the Tranier's session with Ronnie. He handed out copies of Dr. D. James Kennedy's book Why I Believe to those who didn't already have a copy. I was expecting to have to pay for my copy, so I brought my wallet (it would later prove good that I did). Well - Ronnie announced that the books were gifts to us as a thanks for our faithfulness. I had gotten my copy from Debbie on Sunday after class. Ronnie did give us a "homework assignment". We're to reach chapter one - Why I Believe in the Bible - and mark or underline a passage that we think is useful as a defesnse with someone who says they don't .
Well - when we broke out of the Trainer's session, Ken went and found a visit card and he showed it to me. I looked it over - but wasn't impressed and besides the address is in a bad area of Jackson. Ronnie has given us permission to veto making visits to areas we don't feel comfortable in. Well - I exercised that with this card. Then, I started looking at the other visit cards on the table. All of a sudden a card (figuratively speaking) jumped out at me. I looked it over good and felt a very strong sense that we were supposed to make that visit. I showed it to Ken and when he saw the address, he wasn't real thrilled and said it was almost to Carthage. I still had that strong sense that we were to make the visit and wouldn't let up - so Ken agreed that we would attempt it, but if we didn't connect, we would come back and do apartment complexes with religious surveys. I said "fair enough!".
We gathered Chris out of the Trainees session and the other stuff we needed - including two loaves of bread. I had helped Dot to tie the Scripture passages on to the bread with the green ribbon she had brought. Debbie N.'s kitchen team had baked a number of loaves for us to take out on our visits as a gift.
Ken, Chris and I headed out in Ken's van and made our way to Lakeland Drive - which is the route to Carthage - and made our way to the address on the visit card. I wasn't saying much because all afternoon and into the evening I had had an "off and on" headache. Well it was back and I had no Tylenol nor anything to wash it down with if I did. We found the address and discovered that it was the residence of the parents of the lady who filled out the card. They tried to give us directions to her house, but were failing, so the mother called her and gave the phone to Ken and he got directions - she actually lived in Bay Pointe (a golf club community). We gave a loaf of the bread to the mother for her kindness to us.
Then, we loaded up and headed out towards Bay Pointe. As we were going down the road, I asked Ken if we could stop at a convenience store and let me get some Tylenol. He said "how about this Dollar General?" Sure enough - there was a DG out in the "boonies" and it was still open. He pulled in and I got out and went in - I found they had the small bottle of real Tylenol (trial size) for $3 and the DG (generic 100 count) for $2. Which do you think I chose?! If you said the $3 bottle you're wrong! I got the medication and a Mountain Dew (the only drink they had besides Diet Pepsi (and my stomach doesn't tolerate Nutrasweet) and rejoined Ken and Chris in the van after paying for it. I took two of the caplets and washed it down real good.
We found our way to the house in Bay Pointe and were met at the door by Pamela. Ken apologized to her - he had realized that her card said she would like to be contacted by letter - but she said that was okay and invited us in. We discovered we had a family of five on our hands: Pamela, husband Will, daughter Courtney and sons Chris and Willi, Jr. We wound up having a really good visit with them - Pamela and Will were very strong in their faith; Courtney and Will needed assurance and Chris, the youngest at eight years old, made his profession of faith last night. We left the other loaf of bread we had with us with the family as a gift.
After we finished up there and were heading back, Ken called Ken B. and let him know we were on our way back to Church and that we had had one POF and four assurances. I asked Ken if he thought the trip out there was worth it and he said "I should say so!".
Next week we're taking Spring Break, but we'll be back in action on the 21st. Please continue to pray for all of us involved with Evangelism Explosion. By the way - when we came out of the house, Chris asked about my headache and well...it was gone!!
And now - to Dot's report...
EE report... EIGHT more for the Kingdom!!
Dear EE Friends,
Tonight was such a great night. Our trainees are moving along so well with the memory work, and we are most thankful to you for your prayers on their behalf. Our main focus is to successfully train these people to share the Gospel... and then hopefully they will catch the joy of sharing Jesus and want to help us train even more people in the fall. The harvest is there... we need the workers.
Tonight was especially joyful because of the eight professions of faith:
Eric J., Mark B., and Jenny C. went to visit with Leo, at the request of Eric T. who has been witnessing to Leo for several weeks as they worked together. Eric Troyer had faithfully been allowing Jesus to speak through him to Leo, and tonight when the EE team arrived, Leo's heart was ready to receive the gift of Eternal Life. What team work!! Not only did Leo accept Jesus tonight, but his wife, Eunice, did also!
Eric, Mark and Jenny also led Christy to Christ. Christy is a student at Hinds and works at the Golden Corral. She is 22. She lives next door to Leo!
Terri W., Jamie B., and Freddy H. were used tonight to bring 4 more people to the Lord. One was a 75 year old lady in the waiting room at Methodist Rehab Hospital. Then later, in another waiting room they led a family of four to Jesus. They visited with several people there who were already Christians, and some of them asked the team to specifically pray for their family member who was ill. What a privilege to carry everything to Him in prayer!
Chris M., Ken S. and Peggy A. went to visit with a family of 5 tonight. One of the children had participated in Upward Basketball. The 8 year old son prayed to receive Christ. The parents and the other two siblings were already Christians but needed some assurance. The conversation was quite good concerning the importance of this decision being an individual/personal acceptance of Jesus' gift of salvation.
So many other visits were very amazing how God sent certain teams to certain places where they would have something surprisingly in common with those strangers. He is so at work sending us exactly where He wants us to be. That is one of the wonderful parts of this whole operation.... watching Him at work !!
One more thing.. ... Ronnie had asked the ladies that work in the church kitchen if they would bake us some loaves of homemade bread to take to people on our visits. They graciously agreed to do that, so tonight we had 20 loaves of bread to give away. The people loved it!! We attached the scripture, John 6:47-48 to a ribbon that tied around the bread.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am the bread of life.
Again, many thanks to you for your faithful prayers. Next week we will all be on Spring Break sharing Jesus wherever we happen to be. Our next EE time will be two weeks away.
Now unto Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever! Amen! Ephesians 3:20
With His love,
Dot
